SEO Image Optimisation: Why it is significant for your blogs?
Image optimisation is one of the crucial parts of SEO. Even if bloggers perform all the other requirements to create high-quality content for their SEO strategies, an organic traffic channel might be missing out due to a lack of an important component: image optimisation.
It is an essential fact that search engines provide images according to their text-based results. In another saying, search engines cannot read the pictures if the text is not embedded. Therefore image optimisation, in other words defining the image used in the website, is significant to get a better ranking result by search engines. What is Image Optimisation for SEO?
Image optimisation is one of the key drivers of on-page search engine optimisation which improves the visibility of the website. Image optimisation includes all processes of creating and providing the high quality of graphic factors in the most suitable format and size to achieve better user experience. Moreover, the process of image optimisation with the aim of getting better SEO ranking includes labelling the images to make search engine crawlers can read, understand and classify them within the context.
Why it matters for Blogs?
Each blogger wants to place their blogs on the top of the search engine result page since the value of being in the first position is getting nearly 30% of the organic clicks (Chaffey, 2018). In terms of SEO, with optimised right keyword selection, content length, and backlinked to authoritative domains; a blog website can try to get a high rank on search engine result page. Besides how using images play an essential role as catchy headlines do in creating an attention-grabbing blog to reduce the bounce rate, without image optimisation the SEO score would be inadequate.
Moz.com (2017) states that “about a third of all the searches performed on Google are performed in Google Image Search”. This fact shows us when people perform a search on the search engine; they like to see image-based results. Furthermore, according to Search Engine Journal (2014), 63% of the users visit the website if they clicked on an image from it. Hence, image search matters to blogs since it can be used by bloggers as a strategic method to drive traffic. How can bloggers benefit from it? By optimising their images to be ranked better on image search. How to Perform It?It is important to specify that image SEO is the combination of many elements. In this post, I will make emphasis on six significant factors of image optimisation to improve the image SEO score.
Customisation of the file name is needed before adding the images. It should be described with related target keywords since the information given to the search engine will be returned with driven traffic into the page. 4. Alt Text An HTML code is used to describe the attributes for the chosen image to achieve better SEO ranking; this code is called “Alt Text”. Sometimes it is referred to as “Alt Tags” or “Alt Descriptions”. Alt text generates a better understanding of image context & description for search engine crawlers by supporting them to index the picture; hence, not only the pages relevancy can be built but also user experience can be improved. It is significant to describe the information given with the image should be labelled, not just the image by itself. Furthermore, while describing the images, bloggers should avoid keyword stuffing. 5. File Format
There are three main types of image files serving different purposes.

6. Sitemap
Google states that “A sitemap is a file where you provide information about the pages, videos, and other files on your site, and the relationships between them.”. Bloggers should add their images into the sitemap by giving the details about them, including the URL. Hence, the page can be crawled and indexed by Google, resulting in better image SEO. Conclusion
Image optimisation is a substantial part of SEO. By dedication of some time on image optimisation, Bloggers can make their pages more visible on the search engines. As I tried to reflect the components of image optimisation, it needs some investment of time. If it executed well, it would be definitely worth all efforts by reaching increased organic traffic as well as lower inbound rate.
